For the rehabilitation of the Favoriten retaining walls and the bridge structure Absbergbrücke on Vienna’s A23 motorway “Südosttangente”, the BERNARD Gruppe was commissioned by the Austrian motorway company ASFINAG with the general planning for tendering and execution.
By working in interdisciplinary teams with other specialists, our structural engineering experts are responsible for the rehabilitation of the Favoriten retaining walls and of the Absbergbrücke, as well for transport infrastructure, repair of the road surface, electrical engineering, and the renewal of the lighting system.
The three retaining walls will be equipped with a new facing and the cornice will be replaced. On the Absbergbrücke, which directly connects to the Absbergtunnel, the waterproofing, the road surface and the northern edge beam must be renewed. In the course of the abutment rehabilitation, these measures will be accomplished by eliminating the roadway expansion joints and by maintaining the bearings as a “semi-integralization mini”.
Other essential requirements are the architectural design of the facing as well as the harmonization of diaphragm wall tolerances and of the unevenness of the existing shotcrete shell by means of the new facing.
