The BERNARD Gruppe has supported the city of Spaichingen in preparing school route maps for its urban schools.
A school route map provides recommendations for getting to school by bike or on foot. It contains information on recommended routes and safe crossing options, but also on dangerous areas. The decree providing for safer routes to school (Erlass “Sicherer Schulweg”) issued by the state of Baden-Württemberg requires all elementary schools to draw up walking school route maps and secondary schools to draw up walking and cycling school route maps.
The services provided by the BERNARD Gruppe ranged from setting up and registering the Spaichingen schools in the state’s WebGIS tool to evaluating the data recorded in the tool and identifying problem areas. The measures derived were incorporated into the city’s overarching cycling concept, which is also being developed by the BERNARD Gruppe.
The school route maps can be downloaded from the school websites.
