In order to improve the air quality in the city of Herrenberg, the BERNARD Gruppe is currently developing and implementing a comprehensive package of measures with the aim of permanently reducing nitrogen oxide emissions. Essential parts of the project are the revision and adjustment of the traffic guidance measures at the intersections, as well the control of urban road traffic.

Within the framework of a traffic study by the BERNARD Gruppe, the possibility of speed restrictions between 20 and 40 km/h was examined in detail and proven with regard to their effectiveness in reducing nitrogen oxide emissions. Together with the traffic signal control systems, the measures will optimize traffic quality and steady traffic flow.

To implement a network-wide dynamic speed reduction with LED variable message signs, several dynamic displays will be installed in each road section in accordance with the specific road space requirements.
