Within the scope of technical equipment, the BERNARD Gruppe is responsible for the planning of the light signal systems as well as the traffic signal systems for the “New Line 10” in Ludwigshafen-Friesenheim. The city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein as the responsible authority and Verkehrsbetriebe Ludwigshafen GmbH as the operator of local rail passenger transport have a particular interest in improving transport conditions and thus in maintaining and expanding the existing rail infrastructure.

The planning and tendering required for this in the two construction phases by the BERNARD Gruppe includes more than 15 intersections as well as a traffic signal system. The signal system of the junctions takes particular account of cyclists and pedestrians as well as blind people. A challenge is posed by the concerns of urban development, the comparatively narrow streets and the resulting technical requirements. In addition to the planning of the entire system technology and the technical civil engineering, the traffic signal control systems, including prioritisation of the tramway for the final built condition as well as the provisional arrangements during the construction period are being prepared.
