Görlitz’s current overall transport concept dates back to 2011, and a lot has changed since then. The BERNARD Gruppe is therefore supporting the city in updating the concept with the aim of developing a sustainable transport strategy compatible with urban life.

The focus is on improving the quality of life and sustainable mobility development for the city center and the districts of Historische Altstadt, Nikolaivorstadt, Innenstadt and Südstadt. A particular emphasis is being placed on the expansion of alternative means of transport, relieving road congestion and strengthening links with the Polish sister city of Zgorzelec.

The BERNARD Gruppe is contributing its many years of expertise in a multi-stage planning process: from the analysis of the status quo to well-founded traffic surveys and the development of a traffic model to forecasts for future scenarios and concrete measures. In addition to traditional approaches, innovative solutions such as bicycle rental systems, the use of cargo bikes, and traffic trials are also considered. A central element is the active involvement of the public. In mobility forums and workshops, citizens and relevant stakeholders can contribute their perspectives and help shape the process. The new overall transport concept is creating a viable basis for modern and sustainable mobility in Görlitz. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
