The BERNARD Gruppe was commissioned by the Austrian motorway company (ASFINAG) with the project management and the planning and construction work coordination for the full upgrade of the Lötztunnel. The tunnel upgrade is part of the expansion of the road section between the Landeck and Zams junctions.

The S16 Arlberg expressway is located in Tyrol and is the only winter-safe connection through the Arlberg mountain. The Landeck-Zams expressway section connects the Inntal and Stanzertal valleys as a northern bypass of the valley basin.

As part of the upgrade, the Lötztunnel will be equipped with a second tube, and the existing tube will be renewed. During the entire construction phase, ongoing traffic must be maintained, and access to the surrounding residential areas must be guaranteed. In addition, the critical soil conditions due to anthropogenic fillings must be examined and taken into account.

The BERNARD Gruppe provides comprehensive testing services for construction support, deep foundations and geotechnical engineering, supports the tender design and contract award process, and takes over the ongoing monitoring of construction work on-site in the form of geotechnical construction monitoring.
