For the hydropower plant on the Argenbach in the municipality of Au in Bregenzerwald, Vorarlberg, the BERNARD Gruppe provided the permit application design, the tender and execution design including the structural and geotechnical engineering of the tunnel driving and slope stabilization measures, the preparation of the occupational health and safety plan, the coordination of work site activities according to European legislation (BauKG), as well as local and ecological site supervision.

Illwerke vkw AG, headquartered in Bregenz, is building a hydropower plant on the Argenbach in the municipality of Au to expand its own electricity generation capacities for renewable energy. Taking into account the seasonal variations in the amount of water intake, an annual generation of approx. 23 GWh can be achieved. The required flow of maximum 3.5 m³/s is taken from the Argenbach, led through two desanders and then in the pressure pipe DN1400/DN1200 into the power house. In the power house, two Pelton turbines are operated, which generate a total electrical output of 7 MW. The tailrace water is discharged back into the Argenbach via a covered tailwater tunnel.
