As part of the nationwide road traffic census, traffic data is collected at various counting stations on federal highways in southern Bavaria. For the first time, AI-based sensor technology in the form of the BERNARD Mobility Analyser (BMA) is being used instead of video-based manual recording, with over 100 battery-powered devices mounted in parallel on bridges and masts. The sensors enable flexibly programmable measurement periods of up to seven days and are permanently monitored via the Bernard Control Center. The data obtained forms a central basis for traffic planning decisions and is made available via SVZ-online.
