In the course of the temporary maintenance work in the Rombach Tunnel in Aalen, the traffic lights at the Westumfahrung (B29) intersections were comprehensively adapted to meet future requirements. The aim is to manage the additional diversion traffic efficiently and smoothly during the closure periods.
The BERNARD Gruppe is responsible for the traffic engineering planning and control system adjustments for both traffic lights. The work is based on current traffic data and the existing traffic engineering documentation. New signal programmes are being developed for both intersections, specifically tailored to the requirements during the closure periods.
The scope of services includes recalculating the intergreen times, adapting the control logic and developing additional signal programmes for different traffic situations. Furthermore, the measures are reviewed and optimised within the context of the wider network using traffic flow simulations. The project is complemented by the updating of the traffic engineering documentation and close coordination with the client, employer.
The coordinated control of both intersections results in an efficient traffic management system that supports the flow of traffic during maintenance work and reduces the impact on the urban road network.
