In Berlin’s Weitlingkiez neighbourhood, the BERNARD Gruppe carried out a comprehensive traffic study on behalf of the Lichtenberg Roads and Green Spaces Authority as part of an assignment. The aim of the project was to gain a holistic understanding of the existing traffic situation and to develop a sound basis for decision-making for the district administration.
The focus was on a detailed examination of all modes of transport as well as the local infrastructure. In addition, extensive traffic surveys were carried out using the in-house, AI-based BERNARD Mobility Analyser (BMA) systems. In parallel, a detailed survey of parking spaces was carried out, reflecting the needs of residents as well as visitors and business owners. The results were systematically analyzed using geobased data analysis and presented in clear, easy-to-understand formats.
A key component of the project was the active integration of the public. Through various participatory formats organised by the Lichtenberg District Office – both on-site and via mein.Berlin and the in-house BERNARD Geobased Citizen Questionnaire (BGCQ) – feedback, needs and local characteristics were recorded and integrated into the analysis. This resulted in a comprehensive picture of the transport situation.
The results provide a robust basis for the next phase of the project. The development of specific traffic-calming measures will be carried out in a subsequent project by the relevant district administration. In this way, the BERNARD Gruppe is making a decisive contribution to the targeted further development of urban mobility in Berlin
