The new quality standards and model solutions for cycling infrastructure in Baden-Württemberg have been published and introduced by state decree since October 2025.
In cooperation with the design firm VIA eG, BERNARD Gruppe played a leading role in developing state-wide standards for basic routes, priority cycling routes, and cycle highways, and supported information events for regional councils and local authorities in Baden-Württemberg. With the new quality standards and model solutions, the state of Baden-Württemberg is creating a uniform basis for the planning and implementation of cycling infrastructure. The aim is to create a consistent, user-friendly, safe, and attractive network for everyday cycling. This provides local authorities and property owners with practical guidance and concrete solutions for uniform on-site design. To avoid planning errors, typical errors were also shown in so-called anti-pattern solutions. Together with the German Ministry of Transport, the contents were coordinated and transferred into a practical overall document. The publication of the new planning standards was accompanied by specialist presentations and workshops at several events, including the RadKONGRESS Baden-Württemberg 2025.
