The BERNARD Gruppe supports the operator of several hydropower plants in the Kingdom of Bhutan with comprehensive technical services. The focus is on the Dagachhu power plant, which suffered significant damage and had to be taken out of service following an unprecedented flood event in October 2025.

The BERNARD Gruppe was requested to provide technical support with the target to develop a resilient and sustainable solution for the affected structure of the plant, the Head Race Channel. Our experts in geotechnics, hydraulic engineering, and hydropower analyzed the damage and determined necessary immediate measures during a site visit. Subsequently, a comprehensive technical concept for reconstruction is developed which includes the controlled dismantling of the damaged structures, slope stabilization, reconstruction of the penstock as a steel pipe e with adjustable supports and accompanying river training measures. In addition, a continuous monitoring system is being designed to ensure operational safety. With this project, the BERNARD Gruppe strategically contributes its international hydropower expertise to the rapid recommissioning of the power plant.
