The BERNARD Gruppe was commissioned by ÖBB Infrastruktur AG, a company owned by the Austrian Federal Railways, with the permit application design under railroad law for the comprehensive reinvestment of the Innsbruck freight station.

The Innsbruck freight station is a central hub in Austrian rail freight transport and is essential for the transport and logistics sector. The project has been started in response to the requirement for effective and sustainable rail freight logistics and the necessary operating facilities for the Brenner Base Tunnel.

The project scope comprises approx. 20 tracks and over 30 switch points. The average track length is around 500 m. In addition to the tracks, over 20,000 m² of road facilities (connecting roads, loading areas, parking lots) are planned. The contract also includes the drainage design and the design of power supply, signaling, and telecommunication systems, as well as the coordination work for third-party trades (electrical engineering, building construction).

As part of the contract, the BERNARD Gruppe is responsible for the complete design of transport infrastructure. It includes the preparation of the permit application documents under railroad law and Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination in a first phase, as well as the preparation of tender documents and execution design as an option. A particular focus is placed on the application of BIM methodology. This means that all planned systems are designed in 3D and attributed according to construction and maintenance requirements.
