Excellence in urban planning: Leipzig Superblocks win pedestrian traffic award. Leipzig’s superblock concept is convincing – also for the expert jury of the German Pedestrian Traffic Award 2025. With clear goals: lower transit traffic volumes, higher amenity values and safe routes for pedestrians.
The BERNARD Gruppe helped shape the superblock project and contributed significantly to its success. Our team examined the traffic impact in detail and developed solutions for traffic calming in the residential areas. The focus was on the question of how traffic traffic can be effectively reduced to redesign public spaces and create a better quality of life for people. This enabled us to develop clear recommendations for action which, when implemented, will help to calm traffic and increase amenity values in the two residential areas. The jury expressly recognized this integrative approach, which convincingly combines traffic safety, quality of life and environmental protection. Winning the German Pedestrian Traffic Award is a great recognition for the entire project team – and a further incentive for us to make cities more liveable while actively shaping the mobility transition.
