Vision Zero – the goal of accident-free mobility – is the focus of all transport planners. For this purpose, the BERNARD Gruppe relies on a high-precision LiDAR-supported detection system.

With the help of this technology, the trajectories – i.e. the speed-based routes of vehicular and pedestrian traffic – are recorded with centimeter precision. This involves a comparison with safety-relevant parameters such as distance, speed and vehicle type in order to identify potentially critical traffic situations.

The system enables automated 24/7 recording of accident-prone driving maneuvers and documents these in a traceable manner for later analysis. By operating at safety-critical intersections for several weeks, it provides a reliable data basis – more efficient, more continuous and more objective than personal observation.

The comprehensive statistical processing of the collected data supports targeted discussions on accident prevention and enables well-founded optimization measures. The BERNARD Gruppe is thus making an active contribution to improving road safety – with a particular focus on protecting vulnerable road users.

This innovative method for safety-related road space monitoring is a decisive step for the future design of even safer transport infrastructure.
