The BERNARD Gruppe has been commissioned with the feasibility study of transport infrastructure measures for the urban redevelopment in the area near the Porta Nigra UNSECO World Heritage Site.

With extensive redesign measures, the city administration of Trier aims to create added value in terms of urban development and tourism. The redesign comprises the entire area of the square between Porta Nigra, the tourist information office and the buildings on the eastern side of Simeonstrasse. In addition, the Porta Nigra forecourt will be connected to the pedestrian zone. Within the framework of the feasibility study, the removal of the busway from the area Margarethengässchen – Simeonstraße – Porta Nigra forecourt will be examined by taking into account the prevailing circumstances and assessing the expected improvement of the quality of transport infrastructure. For example, cyclists should have an attractive crossing option across Nordallee on the road section Margarethengässchen – Engelstraße. Another goal besides the optimization of traffic flow is to keep land sealing as low as possible.
